Accessibility: Sensory Bags
At the Roman Army Museum, we believe archaeology and history is for everyone.
Our friendly staff are always on hand to provide support and ensure you have the best visit possible. If you would like any more information, please contact us on info@vindolanda.com FAO ‘Accessibility’
We have Sensory Bags available at both the Roman Army Museum and Vindolanda Roman Fort & Museum to support visitors who may benefit from additional sensory resources during their visit. These are free to use whilst on site.
Each bag includes:
- Headphones to reduce background noise and block out overstimulating sounds.
- Sand Timer to provide a visual focus and can help with transitions or managing anxiety.
- Wooden and Plastic Fidget Toys offer tactile stimulation and can help with self-regulation.
- PEC (Picture Exchange Communication) Cards support non-verbal or reduced-verbal communication, helping visitors express needs or choices.
- Kaleidoscope Camera offers gentle, engaging visual stimulation for those who find comfort in repetitive or soothing patterns.
- Magnifying Glass for closer engagement with exhibits, at a visitor’s own pace.
- Feather provides light tactile input, useful for grounding or calming through touch.
- Soft Roman Soldier Toy offers comforting tactile play and a familiar object to hold.
