Friends Day
This event is a way to say thank you to all our Friends of Vindolanda members for their support and to share the news from across the Trust.
The Friends gathering for 2025 will held at 5pm on Thursday 11th September.
The days events will take place across both our sites.
Roman Army Museum & Magna Fort:
9:30 – 4pm – Magna excavations will be taking place and we encourage our friends to visit the team and find out the most recent updates from the site. The updated exhibitions will be available to view in our activity centre and you’ll be able to visit the sensory yurt.
Roman Vindolanda Fort & Museum:
9:30 – 4pm – Vindolanda excavations taking place on the fort,
In the Museum:
2:30pm – 4:30pm – Meet our Assistant Archivist Bethany and learn about our work within the Trust archives.
In the Activity Centre:
Making ink and the birthday party invitation – celebrating Claudia Severa’s Birthday.
In the Gardens:
5pm – Gathering of the Friends for a photo to celebrate 55 years of the Vindolanda Trust and a talk from CEO & Director of Excavations Dr Andrew Birley before walking up to site for a tour of the Vindolanda excavations.
Please make sure you have arrived before 4:30pm to gain access through the Westgate main admissions building to see the updated displays at Vindolanda. If you arrive after 4:30pm you can park in the Eastgate car park and overflow and enter via the museum entrance. The cafe will close at 5pm.
If you are not yet a Friend of Vindolanda you can become one! The Friends Membership comes with access to both Roman Vindolanda and the Roman Army Museum, 10% discount in our museum shops (excluding alcohol), an annual update with our Friends report and an invitation to the annual Friends gathering.
