Guided Walks along Hadrian’s Wall
Our 90 minute guided walks along Hadrian’s Wall are delivered by our amazing volunteer guide, Pete Savin. Pete is a tour guide, photographer and regular volunteer excavator with the Vindolanda Trust.
Your ticket includes a visit to the Roman Army Museum (open 9:30am – 5pm) where you can immerse yourself in the life of a Roman soldier. The museum includes three galleries, a high definition film theatre, and a Roman classroom with a holographic teacher. You can also enjoy our light and airy café facility, shop with bespoke souvenirs, and free parking for Roman Army Museum visitors.
Friends of Vindolanda will still need to purchase a ticket to join the Guided Walk.
Our 90 minute guided walks start outside the museum at 11am and 1:30pm on
- Sunday 19th October
- Monday 20th October
- Tuesday 21st October

The tour will take you on a walk up to the Whin Sill getting stunning, panoramic views of Hadrian’s Wall and beyond. Get up close to a standing section of Hadrian’s Wall as Pete gives you insight into the Wall’s features, it’s landscape setting, Roman and native Briton usage, Turret 45a and signalling, and why our World Heritage Site is so fantastic!

Please Note:
These tours are across rugged and sometimes boggy terrain without paths. If you would like to attend please wear suitable clothing and footwear for walking through fields (long trousers and boots recommended).
This tour is recommended for older children (15+) and adults due to the terrain, any children must be supervised by an adult and behave responsibly.
