Marcus the Medicus – Battlefield Medicine
25th – 29th May, 10am – 3pm.
Our very own Marcus (or to give him his full name Marcus Pergamus Iustus) will lead you on an exploration of what it would have been like to be a Medicus during the Roman Empire at this family-friendly event.
Stamp your own votive offerings and hope that the gods will reward you with good health, get up close with Roman surgical equipment, and with our Saver Ticket continue your Medicus adventure on site at Roman Vindolanda.
In modern life Marcus is otherwise known as Dr Andrew Newton, who is an NHS Emergency Medicine Consultant. Combining the clinical experience of a life time of medical practice (including managing battle-field trauma whilst on active service) with a fascination for the history of medicine allows ‘Andrew’ to bring some fascinating insights into the life and times of ‘Marcus’. Andrew is a member of the Roman Military Research Society.
