Remembering Those Who Served
3rd November – 28th November (excluding 15th & 16th November for the Magna Climate Conference)
In commemoration of Remembrance Sunday, a national opportunity to remember the service and sacrifice of all those that have defended our freedoms and protected our way of life, we will be remembering the Armed Forces and their families – from ancient armies to modern day.
The Roman Army Museum celebrates the lives of those who were stationed up here on Hadrian’s Wall, immersing you in the life of a Roman soldier. During the Roman Empire, fallen soldiers were commemorated with roses, as the God of War Mars was closely associated with the Goddess Flora. The activity centre in the Roman Army Museum will be decorated with roses as part of the Remembrance celebrations. There will be a space within the museum for quiet reflection and a chance for you to write any messages of remembrance as part of our display – remembering all those who have served.
Donation boxes for the Poppy Appeal are at both the Roman Army Museum and Vindolanda.
During 8th & 9th November admission to the Roman Army Museum and Roman Vindolanda is free for veterans and serving members of the Armed Forces. Please bring your ID for entry.
